Our Celebration
It was a truly memorable day. Hot and sunny, late June (on my birthday, actually), in the Wellers' lush and green back yard. Eighty-some people from California, Arizona, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Washington... and Mike cooked for them all out of his home's kitchen.
People have asked us, then and since, why we decided to have a wedding, given that it had no legal meaning and we'd already registered with the state as domestic partners. We thought about that a great deal ourselves. In the end, while our vows were meaningful to us and the party was just fantastic, it was the support of our family and friends that meant the world to us. The opportunity to declare our commitment to them, share the day with our parents, and celebrate the event with people we love - that was invaluable.
